DIY Project Instructions

Thank you for using your creativity to help animals in need!

Below are instructions for a few different items which we always need for our cats and dogs.

DIY First Aid Kit

  • Why it helps: Gives fosters and transport volunteers quick access to basic care in emergencies.

  • Supplies: Small tote/zip pouch, gauze pads, adhesive tape, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, gloves, saline, thermometer, styptic powder, emergency card.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Choose a small, easy-to-carry container.

    • 2. Organize items by type.

    • 3. Label with “Pet First Aid Kit” and emergency numbers.

T-Shirt Tug Toy

  • Why it helps: Keeps dogs mentally stimulated and reduces stress.

  • Supplies: 2–3 clean old t-shirts, scissors.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Cut shirts into strips (2–3 inches wide).

    • 2. Knot 3 strips at one end, braid tightly, and knot the other end.

Sock Crinkle Toy

  • Why it helps: Encourages play and exercise for cats in foster care.

  • Supplies: Clean sock, crinkly paper/empty bottle (no cap), catnip (optional).

  • Steps:

    • 1. Place crinkly material and catnip inside the sock.

    • 2. Tie the open end securely.

Toilet Paper Roll Feeder

  • Why it helps: Encourages problem-solving and slows fast eaters.

  • Supplies: Empty toilet paper roll, small treats.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Fold in one end of the roll.

    • 2. Fill with treats.

    • 3. Fold in the other end.

DIY Comfort Blanket

  • Why it helps: Provides warmth and security during intake.

  • Supplies: Two pieces of fleece fabric (same size), scissors.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Lay fleece pieces on top of each other.

    • 2. Cut 1–2 inch fringe around edges.

    • 3. Tie top and bottom fringe together all around.

DIY Supply Drive in a Box

  • Why it helps: Brings in much-needed everyday items.

  • Supplies: Collection box, wishlist/QR code, flyers.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Choose a location.

    • 2. Set up bin with wishlist.

    • 3. Share drive dates and deliver to PawsCo.

DIY “Adopt Me” Bandanas

  • Why it helps: Makes animals more eye-catching in photos.

  • Supplies: Fabric, scissors, fabric paint/markers.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Cut fabric into triangles.

    • 2. Add “Adopt Me” or PawsCo logo.

    • 3. Let dry and wash once before use.

DIY Paw-Safe Cleaning Spray

  • Why it helps: Helps fosters clean safely without harsh chemicals.

  • Supplies: Spray bottle, water, white vinegar.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Mix 1 cup vinegar + 1 cup water.

    • 2. Label clearly and shake before use.

DIY No-Sew Catnip Kickers

  • Why it helps: Great for active play and stress relief.

  • Supplies: Fabric scraps/socks, catnip, stuffing.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Fill fabric with stuffing and catnip.

    • 2. Tie ends tightly.

DIY Foster Care Starter Kit

  • Why it helps: Prepares new fosters with basics.

  • Supplies: Tote bag, bowls, toys, blanket, litter box, bandana.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Collect basics.

    • 2. Pack and label by animal type (Dog/Cat).

DIY Outdoor Cat Warming Box

  • Why it helps: Provides shelter and warmth for community cats.

  • Supplies: Plastic tote, box cutter, straw (not blankets!), duct tape.

  • Steps:

    • 1. Cut a 6-inch doorway a few inches above the base.

    • 2. Fill with straw.

    • 3. Secure lid with weatherproof tape.

DIY Flirt Pole

  • Why it helps: Provides a quick way to exercise dogs and build focus.

  • Supplies: 4–6ft PVC pipe, 10–15ft rope, dog toy.

  • Steps:

  • 1. Thread rope through pipe.

  • 2. Knot both ends so rope doesn’t slide.

  • 3. Tie toy to the end of the rope.
