Why This Work Matters
Animal welfare in Colorado is at a crossroads. Relinquishments are on the rise, shelters are full, and too many animals still fall through the cracks. That’s where PawsCo comes in. We are a volunteer-run nonprofit that steps up for the animals who need us most, whether that be dogs and cats who simply require more time than shelters can provide or those with medical needs or behavioral challenges.
As a board, we are the backbone of this mission, supporting an incredible volunteer network that brings our mission to life. We don’t have paid staff at this time, which means the Board sets the strategy and ensures the necessary resources are available to carry it out. This isn’t a board to join if you’re looking to simply attend meetings. We are seeking individuals who are ready to think and act strategically, open their networks, and help us raise the funds and momentum to keep PawsCo strong.
We’ve accomplished incredible work with limited resources, saving over 4,200 animals since our inception in 2013. Now, it’s time to take the next step. If you’re someone who wants to be part of solving problems, not just talking about them, then this is the right place for you.
What You’ll Do as a PawsCo Board Member
- Champion the mission: Be an ambassador for PawsCo in your community and networks.
- Provide strategic direction: Help guide big-picture decisions about our programs, fundraising, and partnerships.
- Fundraise: Open doors, make introductions, and directly ask for support when appropriate.
- Meet a Give/Get: Contribute $4,000 annually through a mix of personal giving and fundraising, including buying a table at our Wags & Whiskers gala each Fall.
- Support volunteers: Recognize and back the incredible volunteers who make our programs possible.
- Live our values: Empathy, resilience, problem solving, adaptability, and professionalism.
What’s Expected of You
We’re realistic about where we are as an organization and we’re also confident about where we can go with the right people at the table. Here’s what we ask of every board member:
- Attend at least 80% of board meetings.
- Join us at the annual in-person board retreat (a full-day to 2-day commitment).
- Actively participate in Wags & Whiskers (our signature fundraising event).
- Serve on at least one task force each year.
- Take initiative: If you raise an idea, own it through to completion.
- Come prepared and follow through on your commitments.
The Logistics
- Term: Approved Board Members will serve a two-year renewable term.
- Time commitment: This will depend but our most effective board members spend ~5–10 hours/month, depending on committee/event involvement.
This is meaningful work. It’s not always easy, but it matters. With the right board in place, PawsCo will continue to grow, adapt, and give animals in Colorado the second chances they deserve.
