Meet Beats!

Name: Beats
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Sex: Neutered Male
Age: 3 years
Weight: 12.5 lbs

Good with dogs? Beats co-exists with the large dogs in his foster home. If he lives with dogs in his forever home, would prefer gentle, cat-savvy dogs who are smaller, older, or calmer.

Good with cats? He would most likely be happiest as an only cat and only pet. If he lives with another cat, he’d need a slow introduction. He may be OK with one chill, laid-back cat, probably female, who is also FIV+.

Good with kids? Not Tested. Beats may do best with teens 14+ who can read his cues.

Energy level: Medium. He can play around and be goofy, chasing his wand toys, but he loves nothing more than napping and looking out a window!

Medical/Behavioral needs: Beats is FIV+. FIV is a feline-only retrovirus that affects a cat’s immune system. He is currently asymptomatic and in good health. An adopter should be aware that FIV can make a cat more vulnerable to other medical issues because their immune system is not as strong as an FIV negative cat. FIV is not transferable to humans or dogs and can only be transferred to other cats through a deep cat bite.

Beats has, in certain past situations that could have been avoided by paying attention to his cues, become overstimulated and nibbly. He may use his mouth lightly or play-bite to request that a certain type of interaction end; then goes back to his normal, sweet self once he feels comfortable again. He needs an adoptive home that can minimize his stress and pay attention to how he is feeling.

Animal Characteristics: Beats is an extremely loving, friendly cat who is the biggest ham! He will always greet you with lots of love when you get home. He loves people but will also relax peacefully by himself. He will snuggle and lay in your lap before bed and is always busy making biscuits! He will sleep on his back with his belly exposed, which is a true sign of trust for his beloved human. He enjoys being handled in certain ways on his kitty terms and once you learn his cues, he is so grateful. Beats does very well with new people and is a brave, social boy! He was rescued from a scary life outdoors and has, understandably, learned to express his boundaries, so he needs a safe, cozy, patient home. He may be happiest in a quiet situation without too many overstimulating people or other animals.
