Found a pet?

Please take any pet you find to the nearest shelter. People look for their pets at shelters – not at your house, so it’s the best way for a pet to be reunited with their family.

A great practice is also to post on social media such as Next Door, Facebook, etc. that you found the animal and took them to the shelter, so the owner knows where to find them. Some shelters have night kennels, if you need to drop off a pet after hours.

When you leave a pet at the shelter, they will have a 5-day stray hold by law, followed by an evaluation for adoption, if no one claims them within five days. You can ask the shelter to reach out to you with an update following the animal’s stray hold.

Need to relinquish a pet?

PawsCo does not accept pet surrenders, but our organization works to be a resource to Colorado shelters. There are many amazing positive reinforcement trainers who can work with families to get through difficult times. Should you still choose to surrender your pet, we recommend taking them to a local Front Range shelter.
